When the Orange Moon Crests the Blue Ridge (2017)

for wind ensemble

Winchester, Virginia is located at the northern tip of the state in between the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains. Though Winchester itself is a

small if not quiet city, it is surrounded by the peaceful rolling hills of Frederick County. This piece is a depiction of life in these quiet hills over the course of a night. It opens with the setting off the sunset and then falls away into the twilight. The twilight ends as the moon peaks up over the Blue Ridge mountains. As the moon sets, the period until dawn darkens until finally, the sun rises again.
